Our range of high grade sealing assemblies are specifically designed for applications where certainty is required. Depending on the sealant selected, pressures of up to 700 bar and temperatures of -200°C to +870°C can be achieved. These particular assemblies are for use with multiple sensors or tubes. In applications where single sensors or tubes require sealing with one assembly we offer a single sensor sealing assembly, which can also be found in this section. A variety of sealants are available and a guide is given below to help you select the most appropriate one for your application.
Sealant types:
Neoprene - Code N (Green) - Temperature range -40°C to +90°C
Has the resilience of natural rubber but with better resistance to oil, petrol, ozone, weather and heat. Excellent physical 'memory for temperature cycling applications, moderate electrical resistivity. Reusable in most cases.
Viton Code V (Brown) - Temperature range -40°C to +225°C
Retains its mechanical properties at high temperatures. Resistant to oils, solvents, fuels and corrosive industrial chemicals. Reusable in most cases.
PTFE (White) - Temperature range -200°C to +250°C
Least permeable to gases. Has a natural lubricity. Resists the adhesion of foreign matter. Reusable in most cases.
Lava (Grey mixture) - Temperature range -200°C to +870°C
Low thermal co-efficient, good electrical resistivity. Crushes to a powder under compression. Slightly porous to light gases and steam. Not recommended for vacuum applications. Not reusable.
Other sealants including Graftite™ are also available. Please contact us if you require assistance in the selection of the correct sealant.
- For use where more than one probe or other sensor must pass through a pressure or environmental boundary
- Suited for pressure applications up to 700 bar dependent on assembly selected
- Ideal for use in vacuum applications and are rated to 6.67 x 10-4 Pa (6.67 x 10-6 mbar) for assemblies with Neoprene, Viton or PTFE sealants. Lava sealants are not recommended for use in vacuum applications
- Our sealant glands maintain the integrity of the seal at the point of feedthrough penetration
- They employ 'soft sealant' technology so that probes can be adjusted, removed and replaced yet are not deformed during installation
- Pressure, vacuum and environmental sealing applications are satisfied in many industries including process control and power generation to pharmaceutical, semi conductor fabrication and steel production
- Overall cost of ownership is often reduced when compared to other sealant techniques through reduction in installation time, downtime and the cost of replacement parts
- Pressure ratings are as shown in the tables below (which have been determined at 20°C with a stainless steel rod as the element). Caution: These sealing glands should be installed by suitably qualified personnel in accordance with relevant health and safety rules and with proper regard to safe working practices
- Stainless Steel reducing bushes are available as an accessory
- All assemblies are shipped pre lubricated. A 10ml lubricant pack is available for the relubrication of threads, caps and follower at a later date
- Assemblies with other thread sizes including BSPP and ISO are available on request
- 316L Body (and seat where applicable). Follower and cap in 303 or 304
- Further details and dimensions are available on request
Note: Stub elements to close unused holes must be restrained to prevent ejection under pressure
