Electrode Sealing Glands
These pressure/vacuum sealing assemblies are supplied with single integral electrodes, and provide electrical feedthroughs for high power and high voltage supply connections in a range of electrode sizes. Standard glands are offered with Copper electrodes pre-installed in the gland and are torqued ready for installation. (Assemblies with Nickel or Stainless Steel electrodes are available on request.) They can also be supplied untorqued and without electrodes. Two styles are offered. The first offers our range of soft sealants along with ceramic insulators rated 2000V DC @ 200A max. The soft sealants can be replaced at a future date if retro fitting is required. The second style has a single piece PFA combined sealant and insulator rated 8000V DC @ 200A max. A guide is given below to help you select the most appropriate sealant type for your application.
Sealant types:
Viton (Brown) - Temperature range -40°C to +225°C
Retains its mechanical properties at high temperatures. Resistant to oils, solvents, fuels and corrosive industrial chemicals. Reusable in most cases.
PTFE (White) - Temperature range -200°C to +250°C
Least permeable to gases. Has a natural lubricity. Resists the adhesion of foreign matter. Reusable in most cases.
Lava (Grey mixture) - Temperature range -200°C to +380°C
Low thermal co-efficient, good electrical resistivity. Crushes to a powder under compression. Slightly porous to light gases and steam. Not recommended for vacuum applications. Not reusable. A version rated to 870°C is available on request which uses a stainless steel electrode, please contact us for further information.
- Seals a single electrode
- For use in gas or non conductive applications
- Suited for pressure applications up to 550 bar dependent on assembly selected
- Ideal for use in vacuum applications and are rated to 6.67 x 10-4 Pa (6.67 x 10-6 mbar) for assemblies with Viton or PTFE sealants. Lava sealants are not recommended for use in vacuum applications
- Electrodes have tapped threads and are fitted with two nuts and washers at each end for ring tongue or lug type cable terminals
- Our sealant glands maintain the integrity of the seal at the point of feedthrough penetration
- They employ 'soft sealant' technology so that probes can be adjusted, removed and replaced yet are not deformed during installation
- Power feedthrough applications are satisfied in many industries including vacuum furnaces, autoclaves, equipment enclosures, transformers and environmental chambers as well as high voltage feedthroughs to reactor vessels
- Overall cost of ownership is often reduced when compared to other sealant techniques through reduction in installation time, downtime and the cost of replacement parts
- Pressure ratings are as shown in the tables below (which have been determined at 20°C with a stainless steel rod as the element). Caution: These sealing glands should be installed by suitably qualified personnel in accordance with relevant health and safety rules and with proper regard to safe working practices
- Stainless Steel Thread Adaptors are available as an accessory
- All assemblies are shipped pre lubricated. A 10ml lubricant pack is available for the relubrication of threads, caps and follower at a later date
- 316L Body (and seat where applicable). Follower and cap in 303 or 304; Alumina insulators
- Further details and dimensions are available on request
